What is an ORP Residency?

Each ORP residency is handcrafted to fit the unique strengths and needs of the youth orchestra students and community at large. They are typically 4-5 days long and are conducted in person at the location of the youth orchestra. There are always rehearsals over the 4-5 day residency that culminate in a final public performance.

Residency Goals

and Anticipated Outcomes

Needs-Based Opportunities

We carefully choose youth orchestras that not only demonstrate a compelling desire for growth but also exhibit a commitment to leveraging this unique opportunity for the betterment of their students, a genuine interest in addressing their local community’s needs, and a proven dedication to serving a diverse student body, all based on their specific needs and aspirations.  For this reason, the residency fee is an all-inclusive maximum of $2,500, and is possible to have it partially waived based on proof of need.

Artistic Excellence

At the heart of each ORP residency is a commitment to fostering artistic excellence. Our goal is to provide young musicians with the opportunity to work closely with world-class mentors like Midori and composer Derek Bermel. Through intensive coaching, masterclasses, and rehearsals, we aim to elevate their musical abilities to new heights.

Community Engagement

ORP residencies are not isolated events but rather vibrant collaborations that engage the wider community. We aspire to connect with local schools, sharing the joy of music with students and educators through interactive workshops and performances. Our goal is to bring the community together and inspire a life long love of music in all audiences.

Leadership and Mentorship

Another key objective is to nurture leadership qualities in our participants. We encourage them to lead by example within their ensembles, schools, and communities. By facilitating interactions with mentors, we hope to instill qualities of teamwork, responsibility, and dedication.

Advocacy for Music Education

ORP is a staunch advocate for music education. Through residencies, we aim to raise awareness of the importance of music in schools and communities. We believe that music is a powerful tool for personal growth and community enrichment.

Ongoing Impact

Our vision extends beyond the residency itself. We aim to create a lasting impact by providing resources, tutorials, and support to participants even after they have returned to their normal schedule. Our goal is to provide resources, skills and concepts that will continue to nurture their growth as musicians and community leaders.

We believe that by setting these clear objectives and aspirations, each residency becomes a transformative experience, not only for the participants but also for the communities we engage with.

“We were extremely privileged to have Midori work with our students, inspiring them and encouraging them right here in our little corner of the world (online).  More than that, Midori opened their eyes to the global perspective of the power of music and challenged them to use music for community engagement, healing, and peace. We all need this now more than ever.”
